Congress Passes Legislation to Release Jeffrey Epstein Records

The Senate on this Tuesday quickly approved to a measure that will mandate the disclosure of official records concerning the late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, after a near-unanimous vote in the US House of Representatives and a reversal by the president and his Republican allies. The administration relented after an extended period of trying to forestall the joint action involving a case that has followed the president since his comeback to the White House.

Expedited Passage in Both Chambers

Senators proceeded by general agreement, which needs acceptance from each senator but does not require a recorded vote, speeding up the process. Just before, the House passed by a huge margin the bill on a massive majority.

Citizens have waited long enough. Those affected have waited patiently,” Chuck Schumer said in a Senate remarks on Tuesday, before asking the Senate to pass it unanimously. “Uncover the facts. Allow openness to prevail.”

Future Action

The bill next will be sent to the president for his signature. The president stated on the previous day that he would sign the measure.

Even though the president has for an extended period downplayed the uproar over the official management of the Epstein case as a “false narrative”, he expressed his backing for the legislation over the past few days, and announced he would give his assent if it comes to him.

Reaction

Democrats, along with victims and their representatives who were seated in a public section, cheered after the bill was enacted. The only opposition came from Clay Higgins, who said he worried the measure would make public identifying details of people, those under scrutiny and others implicated in the investigation.
